FAQ's

What is breathwork?

Breathwork is a simple, science-based practice of using guided breathing patterns to calm your nervous system. It can ease stress and anxiety, sharpen your clarity, and help you feel more like yourself. No special skills or beliefs required.

I'm new to this. Is it for me?

Absolutely. Most people who come to Root & Rise are brand new. Jennifer Jean guides you the whole way, at a pace that feels good, so you never have to wonder if you're doing it right.

Is it safe? What if I have past trauma?

Jennifer Jean is a certified trauma-informed breathwork facilitator, and sessions are gentle by design. You stay in control the entire time and can slow down, pause, or stop whenever you need to. This is not the intense, overwhelming kind of breathwork you may have seen online.

What happens in a session?

You'll settle in, and Jennifer Jean will gently guide you through simple breathing techniques, explaining the why as you go. There's nothing to prepare and nothing to get right. Most people leave feeling calmer, clearer, and more grounded.

What if I get emotional or need to step out?

That's completely okay. Emotions can surface, and there's no pressure to do anything but breathe. You're welcome to rest, pause, or step out anytime.

Do I need anything to get started?

Just comfortable clothes and a willingness to breathe. For online sessions, find a quiet spot where you can sit or lie down comfortably without being disturbed.

Can I practice at home?

Yes. Our on-demand classes are made for exactly that, so you can reset on your own schedule, at home, before bed, or on a hard day.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. Jennifer Jean works with clients in person in Salem, Oregon, and online across the country, so you can practice from wherever you are.

Is this religious or spiritual?

No. Breathwork here is a practical, non-denominational tool for your nervous system. You're welcome exactly as you are, whatever you believe.

Do you work with companies and medical teams?

Yes. Root & Rise brings science-based breathwork into workplaces, clinics, and health organizations to help teams manage stress, ease burnout, and build resilience. Visit the Workshops & Retreats page or reach out to plan a session for your team.

Are there any reasons I should check with my doctor first?

Breathwork is gentle, but if you are pregnant or have a heart condition, a respiratory condition, a history of seizures, or another significant medical concern, please check with your healthcare provider before taking part. If you have questions, reach out and we're happy to talk it through.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

You can find the full details on our Refund & Cancellation Policy page. In short, we ask for fair notice to cancel or reschedule, and we'll always do our best to find a caring solution.
